I have been following Hashtag United since the very first game , and I’m not just saying that. I’d be lying if I thought at the start this wasn’t a serious team and wouldn’t last as a team. Spencer Owen and his Brother Seb introduced people from school , uni and childhood friends to play for the new team. After a few games , the standout players were clear and simple with goals being scored by the 2 strikers , Dan brown and Ryan Adams. Spencer played Right back and Seb played on the left wing , both putting in solid performances throughout the journey of Hashtag. I was very optimistic as to how Spencer would take a made up team into being a watched team on YouTube and have people supporting them. Spencer made his own league up and invited random teams to play in the made up league and every time they win a certain amount of games they win the division. Winning the divisions aloud the players to have a day out doing something fun as a squad and improve there bonding as a new group of friends.
After a long while of Hashtag being around , I got used to all of the players , watching all the challenges put on YouTube and Spencer publishing frequent videos. It was clear that Spencer and his team were creating a name for them selfs online , so they moved up a level by taking on teams from different parts of the World. Hashtag visited the likes of America , Ireland and Spain which helped grow their Channel. I started to really enjoy watching frequent football games other than the Professional games we see on the weekend , even tho the Hashtag players weren’t at Professional standards. Spencer started to introduce highly subscribed youtubers to the club to improve views , squad depth and build their name up. The likes of Charlie Morley and Theo Baker joined the team and instantly made an impact, scoring goals in the division and on tour.
Spencer previously played in a YouTube competition called the Wembley Cup which is a 90 minute game of football playing on the best football stadium in England. Hashtag United grew so much as a team and built such a good reputation that Hashtag were given the opportunity to play as Hashtag United against other YouTubers and actually won the competition. Me as a fan , saw this as a clear positive for the club and it proved the haters wrong who thought they wouldn’t be good.
I and other fans have created a bond with the club , as fans see how much of a family based team it has become and how much we appreciate the Hashtag players interacting with the supporters. I have been fortunate enough to speak to Hashtag players in person , watch them at Wembley and interact with them on social media.
After a few years of Hashtag being around , Spencer turned Hashtag into a real team playing in the local league, this allowed the Tags to play competitively and buy players from other teams . Hashtag appointed a real manager called Jay Devereux and signed new players called Harry Honesty, Lee Hursit , Aaron Couch , Neil Richmond and And others throughout the season. I managed to go to 1 game during their first season as a real club away at Holland on sea and they fortunately won the game. Hashtag United have since won the league and is very well known team on YouTube and mostly considered now by people as a proper club.
This is my overall view on Hashtag United’s Journey . Thank you for reading.
